Home!

After 22 hours awake and trips by bus, plane, train and cab, we made it! I was greeted by an enthusiastic dog and now I'm headed for bed. Iceland was great, but I always love coming home. ❤️

Time to depart

We have really loved Iceland, but now it's time to go. The airport is crazy, but we secured junk food and will begin boarding in an hour. Crossing our fingers we can get through customs in Seattle in 30 minutes, so we can make our train. So thankful for this trip! Bye Iceland 🇮🇸

Saturday in Reykjavik

Holiday lights and decorations are everywhere here. It really feels like Christmas is coming. Wait! Doesn't Santa live up here somewhere? 😊 We took the city bus today and wandered. We had lunch at Cafe Babaloo and coffee and macaroons at another stop. We saw the photography museum, the art museum, and a small history museum and now we are off to a nice steak dinner. Last night in Iceland. It's been such a great trip!

Northern Lights

We got lucky and saw a few. My photos on my phone don't do them justice even with a special app. Still grateful for a look.

Hallgrimskirkja and more

Great day today as we began our exploration of Reykjavik. We started with a visit to Hallgrimskirkja, a church with fabulous views of the city. Then, we did a little shopping and mom got herself a gorgeous Icelandic wool sweater. We stopped at a bookstore, and I got a copy of Independent People by Icelandic Nobel Prize winner Halldor Laxness. Can't wait to start reading! After that, we stumbled on some murals on a side street before we reached the Torfan Lobster House for an amazing lunch. From there, the National Gallery and home to prepare for another hot soak. We are really enjoying our trip and Iceland. Plans are already in the works for a summer trip at some point(after our bank accounts have recovered from this one). More wandering tomorrow.

The Blue Lagoon

Wow! Amazing hot water mineral pools with a swim up bar, sauna, and lots of cool travelers sharing stories. Now our skin is glowing and we are about to head back to the hotel where we will sleep soundly. Tomorrow: exploring downtown Reykjavik.

Getting acquainted with Iceland

We spent today getting acquainted with our surroundings and taking it easy after our night flight. This is the view down the spiral staircase from the 5th floor. The hotel is beautiful and the people are lovely. We learned how to say "thank you" in Icelandic-"takk". Off to the Blue Lagoon.
